Newest addition to the Sometimes Family house

The Sometimes Family House has a little mouse running around in it. We have had this (or maybe it is a different mouse) little guy for over a month. A week or so ago, Julius bought some traps that have a spring set in them. When the mouse goes inside, the trap spins around, closing the door.

Well, this hasn't happened yet. I am beginning to wonder if our little mouse is lactose intolerant and if I should change the cheese bait to peanut butter.

Mollie just sent me an e-mail telling me she opened the dishwasher and our little friend was running around inside.

February has been a very busy month for the Sometimes Family, especially considering how short it is. Including a solo show, I will have played 5 shows before the month ends.
We played a great little set at an apartment in Logan Square on Friday.
You will note back in the fall I bought a bike from a guy on craigslist.org that I wanted to add a motor to. Well, when I went to pick up the bike, I stepped inside Jack's apartment and saw a bunch of instruments. I got to talking to him and mentioned our little band, and he said he did house concerts. He said to send him our myspace so he can consider us for a show.
Months passed and no word. However, Jack, a fellow gmail user, kept popping up on my list of IM buddies, so I was constantly reminded of our transaction and the fact that he still hadn't gotten back to me.
Valentine's Day, '10. I'm dogsitting and drinking vodka. Jack is on and I'm poised for our gmail chat.
"Jack?"
"Yes"
"This is the person that bought that yellow bike from you."
etc. etc. etc.

He invited us to play at a house show he was doing later that week, on Friday, and we did.
We didn't know anyone, but small world as it is, we had some friends (not in attendance) in common. Also, some of our friends came out to see us. Our whole band of 5 played a stripped-down set and got a wonderful response. We probably got more names on our mailing list that night than ever before, with only 10 or 20 people outside of our own there. I didn't even announce the fanmail list. They came to me!
Steve and I were the last to leave. We had a great time. I'm not sure how the others in the band felt, but they are, as always, invited to blog about it.

Tuesday we'll play a set at Jeff Breakey's house in Pilsen. I'll try to remember to write about that.

Tonight is band practice. Also, I got interviewed by someone from the Tribune in advance of our Abbey show, so they need a band photo. I realized we don't really have one with Phil, so tonight hopefully we can take one. In the mean time, here's one to look at.

This is the latest project. Julius and I...well, mostly Julius...are making a motorized bicycle. I will try to post often of our progress. Tonight we mounted the motor and the gear to the rear wheel. It looks like it's not quite on there straight, so we're going to try to fix it tomorrow.

I thought that perhaps I should write a little about the Sometimes Family.
Mollie, Julius, Steve, and I got an apartment together July 1st. It's a beautiful and huge place in Old Irving Park, and it's great. We're all such good friends. Mollie has a lot of plants and reminds me each day of how much I love plants, just by seeing hers. I admire her and I have bought a lot of plants since I lived here. This is the first place I've ever lived where I've actually had space. Therefore it makes sense to me that I have a lot of plants. I go to Adams and Son on Thomas and California to buy plants, but after today I think I better stop since my hours at work have been cut. I'm playing a lot of drums and our apartment makes it possible. Julius, Steve, and I are playing a set on the 30th at Mutiny of all places. I will be playing drums.

Today we had no Internet. Julius was sad. I tried to help, but we had to somehow solve the puzzle of the 20-digit number to make it work, and it was left unsolved. We had all the packaging for the router, and even the router had numbers all over it, but none of them had as many as 20 digits. We must find Steve and get to the bottom of this. I was in the middle of iSpy on hulu and I am dying to find out what happens next.
